Although Java may be platform independent, the working of applets is not browser independent. One objective of this FAQ page is to help you find out why the demo doesn't work in your browser.
Scenario. You clicked on the light link of demo-X and no applet window appears (browser may say applet not initialized).
Probably your java plugin doesn't support XML parsing. Try the heavyweight version of the demo.

If the browser indicates that its trying to load some parser class, then the problem is probably that your java plugin doesn't support XML parsing. Try the heavyweight version of the viewer.
Scenario. You are using the heavyweight version or you have confirmed that your java plugin works with the light weight version. You select a model from the file menu, the background changes but nothing appears.

It is possible that the server has stopped or been incorrectly started after a system boot. We try to check periodically that the server is functioning, but there may be outage.
If you are behind a firewall that does not allow outgoing connections the demo will not work for you.
